I got a new puppy, a short-haired border collie, possibly mixed but he and his siblings look pure breed. Not that I really care if he's a pure breed. Mixed make better pets all around. Better looking (usually), better health, better behavior, I've only had one other pure breed and it was a German Shepherd. It's a breed I adore but I'm starting to really like BCs too.
He's sort've a rescue pup in the sense that ... he's shredding a plastic water bottle like it did him some great injustice and the sound is getting unbearable*... his rescuer found him and his littermates wanding down a road with no mom in sight. They thought possibly they wandered away from their mother and posted a lost and found ad at first but when nothing turned up, they posted a free puppies ad.
He had two other brothers and a sister. The female had the most gorgeous ice blue eyes, and I almost picked her instead. I really hope they find homes, too, though if they don't I'm sure they'll be okay. The family we aquired him from already had a good sized army of dogs ranging from dachshunds to enormous chocolate labs to giant fluffy monster sized cats.
They named him Sarge. He's still in the puppy phase and while I could change it*** I'm not going to. I've already embraced it anyway. I got him a camoflage collar and a little camoflage squeaky toy rope thing that he's already shredded the stitching on in the whole day and a half he's had it.
He has his own chair, too. This pear-green foldable mushroom(?) chair that I've had clothes piled on forever. I tossed a cover over it and now it's his. No one else's. He sleeps in it, often curled up into a "play dead" sort of pose on his back and runs to struggle (he won't jump) to climb into it when he's been naughty.
His last round of puppy shots are next week. That's going to be fun. On the less-than-dim side, it only took him all of 8-10 minutes to learn to like walking on a leash and I don't think he's ever had a collar on before. I was lucky. Now I just have to wait for the weather to warm up to work on some obedience. Hoo boy.
* By the time I wrote this, he'd already dropped it off of his chair and proceeded to slaughter his camo/rope squeaky thing for a while before flopping down in his chair and passing out. Terrorizing toys is tiresome bizznizz.
** Starting to get back to old stuff. I straightened up (most) of the old sites I used to frequent, pointing them all to here since regretably, my attention span is about that of a goldfish's. Ursula's blog (I never say blog I hate that word. What's wrong with me? Livejournal.) was one thing I used to really enjoy. I wish I had 1/8th of her creativity, humor, and interestingness. Unfortunately, I'm interestinglessness, so I read. Oh, and she's sometimes NSFW if only because head-on-the-desk difficulty-breathing laughter could cause your coworkers to suspect something's gone terribly wrong. But no, really, there are other reasons, too.
*** I had a whole list of other names I would've named him, too. Aries, Appollo, Orion, Sirius, just to name a few. Ah, well. If one pup wasn't more than enough trouble for me, I'd look into getting him a (possibly) German Shepherdish companion.
I still can't change my mood. ):

Anywho. The library still doesn't have Exile, and while they got Brisinger in, I declined it since Mike's friend Frank gave him the hardcover. I can just read it when I get to Ohio.. which is happening in early June. Mike's coming down the 4th (Friday), and we're heading to the aiport that next Tuesday.
Sidenote: I'm about to find a way to rip the touchpad out of my laptop. I use a wireless mouse and while I type I think I keep bumping it, causing my cursor to j

RIP Scanny McPrintson
Well, damn. My scanner died. Right as I finished one drawing and am working on another one that I like and wanted to share. Oh well. I'm not sure what's wrong with it, nothing will work, though. All the buttons are unresponsive and the computer says it isn't there.
So. Until it's either fixed or I get a new one, I suppose I won't be posting much, if at all for a little while.

I feel left out being the only person not to comment on the Sarge. He's too damn adorable.. now I'm thinking of going dog-shopping when I'm on summer break. Only problem is that I'll be gone a lot in the fall with student teaching...
